Looking for the perfect Spring Festival in Bergen County to visit with your kids this year? After the excitement of our 2026 Easter Egg Hunts, the season is just getting started with incredible family-friendly spring festivals and outdoor community events right here in Northern New Jersey.
As a local mom living in Fort Lee, I am passionate about scouting for the best local events and experiencing them firsthand with my children. One of the things I love most about NJ is just how much thought goes into planning these community gatherings! I’ve curated this deep-dive guide to the must-visit Spring Festivals in Bergen County for April and May 2026. Whether you’re looking for a vibrant Color Run, a charming flower fair, or a nature walk, these local events are perfect for toddlers and 1st graders alike!

1. YCFL Color Run: “Think Green, Run Clean” (Fort Lee)
The Youth Council of Fort Lee (YCFL) hosts one of the most anticipated Spring Festivals in our area! This “Think Green, Run Clean” Color Run is all about community, diversity, and messy, colorful fun.

- Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026 (Rain Date: May 2, 2026)
- Location: Fort Lee Community Center & Surrounding Park
- What to Expect: This is a non-competitive 5K run or a 1-mile “Fun Walk” perfect for younger kids. Participants pass through various “Color Stations” where they get doused in vibrant, eco-friendly colored powder. It’s an exhilarating experience that your kids will be talking about for weeks.
- Mom’s Tip: WEAR WHITE! The colors pop best on white T-shirts. Also, bring a pack of baby wipes and old towels to cover your car seats for the ride home—trust me, you’ll thank me later!
- Official Registration: Youth Council of Fort Lee (YCFL)
2. Ridgewood Daffodil Festival & Earth Day Fair (Ridgewood)
Watch downtown Ridgewood transform into a sea of yellow blossoms. This event is perfect for families who love a classic, walkable small-town festival vibe.

- Date: Sunday, April 26, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Location: Van Neste Park (Ridgewood Downtown)
- Highlights: This festival features a dedicated “Kidz Zone” with petting zoos, pony rides, and gardening workshops where kids can plant their own seeds to take home. The local live music adds a wonderful atmosphere for a Sunday outing.
- Mom’s Tip: Parking in Ridgewood on festival days can be a challenge. Try the Hudson Street Garage. After the festival, I highly recommend a family brunch at Raymond’s—their French toast is a legendary kid-favorite!

3. Tenafly Nature Center: Seasonal Nature Walks & Spring Events (Tenafly)
If you are looking for a more immersive Spring Festival experience that combines education with outdoor play, the Tenafly Nature Center (TNC) is the place to be this April. Their 2026 calendar is packed with hands-on activities perfect for curious 1st graders and toddlers.
- April Highlight – Spring Break Nature Day Camp:
- When: April 1st – April 3rd (Wed-Fri) & April 6th – April 10th (Mon-Fri)
- Details: They offer separate sessions for Pre-K & Kindergarten and 1st-6th Grade. It’s the perfect solution for keeping kids active during the school break!
- Special Earth Day Event – Trash-A-Thon:
- When: Wednesday, April 22, 2026 | 1:00 PM
- What to Expect: A meaningful community cleanup event where kids can learn about environmental stewardship while exploring the trails.
- Recurring Family Favorites:
- Seasonal Scavenger Hunt: April 11th & 17th, May 3rd | 1:00 PM. A fun, low-pressure way for families to explore the forest at their own pace.
- Nature Story Time: April 16th | 10:00 AM. Ideal for younger siblings (toddlers) to enjoy a book followed by a short nature walk.
- Fabricating for Faeries: April 25th | 1:00 PM. A magical crafting session that 1st-grade girls (like mine!) absolutely adore.
- Mom’s Tip: Many of these programs, especially the Extraordinary Egg Hunts and Day Camps, fill up weeks in advance (you’ll notice many are already marked as “FULL” on their calendar). I highly recommend signing up for their newsletter to get early access to registration. Also, TNC facilities are closed on Easter Sunday (April 5th).

4. Demarest Farms: 2026 Season Opening & Petting Zoo (Hillsdale)
Mark your calendars! Demarest Farms is officially reopening for the 2026 season on April 21st. While we usually think of them for fall apple and pumpkin picking, their spring opening is the perfect low-key family outing.
- Opening Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2026
- The Petting Zoo Experience: Make sure to visit their friendly farm animals! It’s a signature experience where kids can get up close with goats, sheep, and more. It’s much less crowded in the spring than during the fall rush.
- Highlights: Their farm market will be stocked with fresh goods, and yes, those famous Apple Cider Donuts are back!
- Mom’s Tip: Since they require bookings for certain experiences, I recommend checking their Calendar of Events on the website before you head out to see if you need to “Book Now” for the petting zoo.
